NAS100 and US30 lot size calculator: position size for indices
For indices, the value of one point depends on your broker’s contract size. Enter risk and stop in points, check the contract size – the calculator shows the right lot size for NAS100, US30, SPX500, GER40 and more.
Advanced
Enter the stop loss to see the lot size.
Common contract sizes are preset (forex 100,000, gold 100 oz, indices and crypto 1, oil 100). Brokers differ, especially for indices, oil and crypto. Check the contract size once in your platform and enter it under “Advanced”. Spread and commission count towards the risk.
Want to size right on the chart? The lot calculator is also available as a plugin for MetaTrader 5. The plugin is part of Pro.
How to calculate your lot size for indices
- Enter your balance and risk.
- Choose an index, e.g. NAS100 or US30.
- Enter the stop-loss in points (e.g. 40 points) or entry and stop as prices.
- Compare the contract size with your broker (MetaTrader: right-click the symbol → Specification) and read the lot size.
Formula for indices
Lot size = amount at risk ÷ (stop in points × value of one point per lot)
Example: 1,000 USD risk, 40-point stop, 1 USD per point and lot: 1,000 ÷ (40 × 1) = 25 lots. If one point is worth 10 USD at your broker, it is 2.5 lots.
FAQ
- How much is one point in NAS100 or US30 worth?
- Your broker decides. Often it is 1 USD per point and lot, some brokers use 10 or 20 USD. You find it in MetaTrader under Specification as contract size – you can adjust it in the calculator.
- Why are index lot sizes so large?
- Because with many brokers 1 lot is only 1 USD per point. 25 lots in NAS100 are then the same risk as 2.5 lots at 10 USD per point.
- Does this work for GER40 or UK100?
- Yes. The calculator converts the point value in euros or pounds into your account currency automatically.
- Are my inputs saved?
- No. Everything stays in your browser. With CRYPDEKS Pro you calculate directly in MetaTrader 5.
